ICMR-NIREH to host online training on ethical research practices

The Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR)-National Institute for Research in Environmental Health (NIREH) will conduct an online training programme titled “Ethical Principles and Practices for Research Involving Human Participants with Environmental-Associated Ailments.” The event, scheduled from 10:30 am to 01:00 pm on June 14, aims to strengthen ethical standards in biomedical research, especially concerning environmental health.

This programme represents a significant opportunity for professionals in the biomedical research community to enhance their expertise in ethical practices, ensuring that their research involving human participants is conducted with the utmost integrity and respect for human rights.

This training session is an essential initiative aimed at equipping researchers, scientists, and medical professionals with comprehensive knowledge and practical guidelines on conducting ethically sound research involving human subjects who are affected by environmental health issues.

Eminent speakers include Dr G Narendran, scientist – F, ICMR-NIRT, Chennai who brings in extensive expertise in tuberculosis research and respiratory diseases, contributing to the understanding of ethical challenges in clinical studies involving vulnerable populations.

Dr V V Banu Rekha, scientist – E, ICMR-National Institute for Research in Tuberculosis (NIRT), Chennai. With a robust background in public health and epidemiology, Dr Rekha will address ethical considerations in epidemiological studies and public health interventions.

Dr. Roli Mathur, scientist – F & head, ICMR Bioethics Unit, scientific advisor, NAITIK Portal, Department of Health Research (DHR), ministry of health and family welfare (MoHFW), New Delhi, is a leading figure in bioethics, will provide insights into the ethical frameworks and guidelines essential for protecting human subjects in biomedical research.

Dr Pradyumna K Mishra, scientist – F & head, EBGMB division, ICMR-NIREH will discuss the ethical dimensions of genetic and molecular biology research, highlighting best practices for ensuring integrity and compliance.

The training programme is organized by Dr. Rajnarayan R. Tiwari, director, ICMR-NIREH.

The programme is designed for medical institutes, hospitals, universities, and colleges engaged in the field of biomedical research.
