NABL announces transitional changes in lab accreditation procedures

In order to ensure the seamless transition of accredited laboratories, the National Accreditation Board for Laboratories (NABL) has announced an extension of the transition period for accredited laboratories from the initial deadline of December 31, 2023 to the revised date of August 31, 2024. This extension provides laboratories with an additional 8 months, transitioning from a 12-month period to a more extended 20-month timeframe. Accredited laboratories are advised to adhere to specific guidelines during this transition. Laboratories applying for reaccreditation must follow the previous legal identity. In the event of an adverse action as per NABL norms, labs reapplying for accreditation will be treated as fresh/new labs. Any changes in the name or transfer will be treated as a fresh/new lab. Laboratories failing to submit renewal applications before expiry will be treated as fresh/new labs upon reapplication. It is crucial to highlight that all fresh/new labs will not be accepted with previous legal identities, including proprietorship and partnership structures. N. The extended transition period aims to provide laboratories with ample time to adjust and comply with the evolving accreditation requirements.
